9 Myths About Adopting From Foster Care

When Zach and I made the decision to adopt we chose to go the domestic, private adoption route (you can read about some of our reasons why here!) . Today Natasha, from Let's Be Brave , is sharing nine myths about adopting from foster care: I hear these comments all the time.  Adopting from  foster care  is too expensive, hard, heartbreaking, etc. - fill in the blank with whatever you want. And while it’s always good to consider the challenges that will come along with any choice you’re going to make, it’s also important to be properly informed. Below are nine myths I hear all the time about why people shouldn’t  adopt from foster care .

I am HARDCORE about starting as I mean to go on and that means from birth implementing Babywise techniques with my infants. Caitlin offers up wonderful suggestions and simple ways to establish positive sleep habits from the start!  A great read for any mom-to-be :) Natasha from Let's Be Brave is covering the opposite end of the sleep spectrum in her post today: Dropping to One Nap. Undergoing Life Changes with a Strong Willed Child {Guest Post}

Today is Babywise Friendly Blog Network Day and I'm guest posting about the topic of adoption over on Christine Keys ...today Katrina from Mama's Organized Chaos is sharing about the topic of undergoing life changes with a strong willed child.  Have you had any big life changes recently? Moving? New baby? Death in the family? Just a lot going on? Those things all can take up your time. They can make you stressed. They can impact your day to day life. The end result impacts your child as well. Your child gets less attention when these big moments steal your time and your focus. Your child feels the mood changes if you are stressed. Your child then begs for attention and starts acting out. You suddenly feel overwhelmed. Not only are you dealing with huge things in your life right now, your child has chosen this time- this of all times, to start acting out. Well it's no coincidence. This is what is currently happening in our house right now. We are moving. It'...

BFBN Week: The Realities of Exclusively Pumping

Thursday, March 8, 2018

I've been loving all of the breastfeeding posts this week and today's spotlight blogger is Caitlin from Twin Mom and More ! I have personally experienced exclusively breastfeeding and have experienced exclusively bottle feeding but I have not ever had the experience of exclusively pumping so this topic is something I'm very interested in and one I know will help others who are planning to or considering exclusively pumping as well! I love that Caitlin tells it like it is and appreciate this quote from her post: " In my opinion, exclusively pumping combines the hardest parts of formula feeding and breastfeeding. I’m not writing this to scare anyone who plans on pumping. Many moms aren’t able to breastfeed, or they work full time, so they choose to exclusively pump. I just want you to know that  it is a lot of work.  I’ve heard many people casually say “Oh, just switch to pumping.” It’s not as simple as that. I want you to be prepared for the amount of work that...

BFBN Week: Advantages of Breastfeeding on a Schedule and How to Survive the First Few Weeks of Breastfeeding

Wednesday, March 7, 2018

Today is the third day of our breastfeeding series and we have to spotlight bloggers for the day. First up is Katrina from Mama's Organized Chaos and she's sharing the Advantages of Breastfeeding on a Schedule. A common myth surrounding breastfeeding is that you can't do nurse and  have your baby on any sort of sleep schedule. I'm one of many examples that you CAN do both! My supply never had any issues while having my babies on sleep schedules and I'm a firm believer that you can do both and do both successfully.  I love this quote from Katrina's post: " I cannot say enough good things about using schedules while breastfeeding. Without the use of schedules, I honestly don't think I would have kept up with breastfeeding. It's hard to give up your body for someone else to just use as they please." Be sure to read the rest of her post here! Natasha  from Let's Be Brave is sharing about how to survive the first few weeks of breas...

BFBN: Why Breast Is Not Best and What Twins Can Teach Us About Breastfeeding Attitudes

Tuesday, March 6, 2018

Today is the second day of our breastfeeding topic for Babywise Friendly Blog Network week! I love this topic and love that we're all discussing it from different perspectives.  Both Christine from Christine Keys and Kim from Team Cartwright are spotlight bloggers today. First up Christine is touching on the whole "breast is best" movement and how it's not  the best and how that phrase should be retired! You can read her entire post here! Then we have Kim discussing the differences in breastfeeding twins vs a single baby. How society views it and what expectations are placed on a mother feeding her babies. I love this quote from her post:  "I think the differences between how we treat moms who want to nurse a singleton and those who want to nurse twins show us that we don't need to take an all or nothing approach to breastfeeding.  We can teach mothers about the benefits of breastfeeding.  Education is important, and I know as a mother I wanted to ...

BFBN Week: How I Breastfed For 12 Months Even When Everything Went Wrong

Monday, March 5, 2018

This week is Babywise Friendly Blog Network Week! These Babywise Bloggers aren't just fellow bloggers with like minded parenting styles but they are some of my very best friends and I am beyond thankful for their friendship. I wish we'd had each other during my early days of motherhood but I LOVE that we're all able to write on topics that can be so beneficial for mamas who are  in those phases of parenting where it's hard and overwhelming and can feel so lonely . This week our topic is on breastfeeding but our posts won't be the typical posts you're probably used to seeing on this topic! I'm SO excited for this series!!! Today we're kicking things off with Val from Chronicles of a Babywise Mom and she's sharing how she breastfed for 12 months even when everything went wrong. I relate SO MUCH to this experience as I struggled big time with nursing Kye and then even with nursing Britt! It really took that third baby for everything to "click...

How To Teach Your Child To Be Kind

Thursday, February 8, 2018

Today is Babywise Friendly Blog Network Day! I'm blogging over at Valerie's blog (Chronicles of a Babywise Mom) about How to Yolo When Parenting Solo. Val is also guest posting here! I always love her wisdom and insight on ALL topics and am so excited about the topic today. With so many issues with "mean girls" in our culture I want to make sure to raise my kids to be kind: How To Teach Your Child To Be Kind by Valerie Plowman One of my greatest goals for my children is for them to be kind to others. I have taught my children that if they do their best to be kind to others, then if the day comes that someone says mean things about them, others won't believe it. I want them to be someone who brings light into the lives of others, not someone who sucks light from their lives. Below are some ways to instill kindness and empathy in your child. 5 Ways to Teach Children Kindness Explain Your Expectations Studies show parents who have explained their expecta...

9 Truths Known By Twin Moms

Thursday, January 11, 2018

Today is Babywise Friendly Blog Network Day! I'm posting over on Let's Be Brave about a very sensitive adoption topic and Caitlin, from Rogers Party of 5 , is posting here about TWINS! Having twins is an amazing, beautiful, chaotic, and challenging blessing. Before I had my girls, I didn't realize that something that I loved so much could also cause me this much stress. I also learned that being a twin mom is like being in a special club. I had a friend once who drove a jeep, and he told me that everytime two jeeps passed, the drivers would acknowledge each other with a peace sign. I'm not sure if this is true, or if it's something he just made up but it's akin to being a twin mom. Every time I see a fellow twin mom, we exchange looks, because we just know. We are part of the same sisterhood. Today, I have for you 9 truths that only twin moms know. 1. You are a Spectacle Do you know what people love more than one baby? Two babies. I've experience...

BFBN Day: Real Vs Fake Fears

Thursday, November 9, 2017

Today's spotlight blogger is Kim from Team Cartwright  and she's sharing how to tell between real fears and fake fears. We've ALL had those moments in the night where we hear our child call out to us. Saying they are afraid. Is it legit? Or a ploy to get us to come in? Her post is super helpful to know when it's a real-deal fear and when it isn't! Be sure to read the full post here.  Also make sure to check in with all the Babywise Friendly Bloggers this week as we talk about fears: Monday: Valerie from Chronicles of a Babywise Mom -  What To Do When Your Child is Scared of the Dark Tuesday: Katrina from Mama's Organized Chaos -  How to Ease Your Toddler's Fears Tuesday: Natasha from Let's Be Brave -  9 Ways to Teach Kids Bravery Wednesday: Christine from Christine Keys -  3 Powerful Ways To Conquer Your Toddler's Irrational Fears Wednesday: Carrie from Wiley Adventures -  Managing Fears at Bedtime Thursday: Kimberly from Team Cart...

BFBN Day: Conquer Your Toddler's Irrational Fears and Managing Fears at Bedtime

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

Today is our third day of Babywise Friendly Blog Network week and we're all sharing about fears! Christine is talking today about 3 powerful ways to conquer your toddler's irrational fears.  At some point all toddlers will have fears and knowing HOW to help them makes those times easier and will limit the length that those fears last. Be sure to read her full post here! Carrie, from Wiley Adventures, is also posting today and she's helping mama's manage bedtime fears.  My FAVORITE tip she shares in today's post is to replace the fear. This is something I'm pretty hardcore with my kids...I also do this myself. If I'm afraid I will calm myself by thinking about future travel plans we have. Thinking about something I'm looking forward too helps me better fall to sleep rather than focusing on my worries. Same applies to kids! Give them some topics to think on (my favorite is to tell them that the next day I want to hear 3 things they are excit...

BFBN Day: How to Ease Your Toddler's Fears and 9 Ways to Teach Bravery

Monday, November 6, 2017

Today the spotlight is on Katrina from Mama's Organized Chaos as she shares ways to ease your toddler's fears. So often as adults we can be annoyed by fears our children have because, to us, they seem irrational. It's so important to try to put yourself in your toddler's shoes and to communicate with them to work through the (very real to them!) fears they are having. Be sure to read Katrina's post today here for more on this topic! Natasha, from Let's Be Brave , is also a spotlight blogger today on our topic of fears. Her post is 9 Ways to Teach Bravery . I'm ALL about empowering our children. Focus on the positive! Build them up! And I love Natasha's take on how to encourage our children to be brave.  And check in with all the fellow Babywise Friendly Blog Network Bloggers this week: Monday: Valerie from Chronicles of a Babywise Mom -  What To Do When Your Child is Scared of the Dark Tuesday: Katrina from Mama's Organized ...

BFBN Day: What to Do When Your Child is Scared of the Dark

Today kicks off our Babywise Friendly Blog Network Week! Valerie, from Chronicles of a Babywise Mom , is sharing her post on what to do when your child is scared of the dark. This isn't something we've really dealt with much in our home personally (my post Friday will be about preventing fears actually!) but Valerie's blog is my go-to blog whenever I hit a parenting hurdle. If you've got a little one struggling with fears in the dark...then this post is for you ;) You can read her tips here! Be sure to check in with all the Babywise Friendly Blog Network bloggers this week as we all discuss the topic of fear: Monday: Valerie from Chronicles of a Babywise Mom -  What To Do When Your Child is Scared of the Dark Tuesday: Katrina from Mama's Organized Chaos - How to Ease Your Toddler's Fears Tuesday: Natasha from Let's Be Brave - 9 Ways to Teach Kids Bravery Wednesday: Christine from Christine Keys - 3 Powerful Ways To Conquer Your Toddler...
