They say third time is the charm and when it came to my breastfeeding experiences, this was FOR SURE true. Out of all of my kids so far, Tess and I had the best nursing bond. She just loved it. I know I had heard from people before how much their babies loved to nurse and I never really understood that. Both Kye and Britt just weren't that way. Tess never, ever got the least bit distracted while nursing. I never had to force her head to eat. She never wanted to stop! I could tell it was something she just really enjoyed and it really deepened our bond together as well. The downside of her love for nursing was that the child never did take a bottle very well. She wanted the real thing! I introduced whole milk when Tess was 10 months old but she wasn't a huge fan and continued to just want to nurse over getting milk in any other form. I took the longest to wean her out of all my babies and it also made for the easiest weaning experience. The week after...
There are many aspects of parenting that are based off of opinion. I may be passionate about Babywise and scheduling but I also know that there are other parents who are passionate about co-sleeping. I love Baby-Led Weaning and other mamas love jarred baby food. We all have opinions. We all have preferences. We can debate things to the death but, really, we can all find good and bad things with all areas of parenting choices. There is only one area of parenting that I can think of where there is really no debate to be had and that's when it comes to breastfeeding. Some moms may not breastfeed and I'm not judging or knocking them for that decision. But even formula feeding moms know that breast milk is what is BEST for a baby. Heck, all the formulas on the market try to out-do each other by saying they are the one that is the "closest thing to breast milk." There is really no debate! I am so, so thankful that I have breastfed my children. It has not been a...
Wellllll some people knew what I was in for ( Rachael and Robyn !) but I didn't really have a clue. I like to wait until I'm through something tough to blog about it as it's easier to see how I handled the situation and what I did to overcome it when I'm looking BACK on it instead of living in it at the moment. On the 22nd I nursed Kye for the last time. On the 23rd I felt fine. It was my first day of not nursing since March 4th and I was just like normal. No issues at all. That night I didn't sleep so great but it only got worse! On the 24th (greeeat timing Emily!) I noticed my breasts were pretty hard and tender and it was pretty annoying. I put cabbage in my bra and went about my day. I changed out the cabbage as soon as it got wilted. When we got to Mrs. Charlotte's she told me I should bind them up but I had a cute sweater on and didn't want to ruin my outfit. By the end of the night though I was needing some help. I changed into a comfy shirt and le...
