Whenever I'm pregnant Zach and I always put together a list of things to do around the house prior to the baby's birth. We know that a new baby means a lot of household stuff gets put on the back burner for awhile so we try to knock as much off as we can while I'm pregnant to make life easier when the new baby arrives. While I was pregnant with Tess one of the things Zach did was WD40 all of our doors. We've lived in our house for almost 5 years now and we all know a squeaky door will wake a sleeping baby! We thought it was smart to just go ahead and do it to all our doors to make for a nice and quiet atmosphere in our home. Welllllll we quickly regretted that decision! Now all of our doors shut on their own. We can't keep any doors open because they will automatically close! I don't know if our house is like on a tilt or something or if that WD40 just worked too well but it's so annoying . I think we'd both agree we'd rather have our squeaky...
I'm a big believer in that our home will never be "finished." We will always be doing little things here and there to improve it, update it, and make it better and better! Zach has done a TON of improving on the outside of our home and is currently hard at work on his next project which is finishing the kids new playroom ;) Posts on all of that to come, of course! In the past few months we have done a few smaller things to the inside of our house and I LOVE each of them!!! Sometimes small changes can have a BIG impact!!! When we first moved in we went to Ikea and we just bought this tan rug for our dining room. I never liked it. It was NOT the right size and it always bothered me. Also it was dry clean only and when we got it cleaned it wouldn't ever flatten out all the way so that made it even more annoying to me. I debated buying a new one because we had talked about eventually getting a larger dining room table. Our dining room table was super cheap cheap (...
The great thing about building a home in the same neighborhood we were living in is that Kye got to be part of the entire process. I was hopeful that all the time he spent at the "new house" would help him transition into making it his home. I'll always think of the back left corner of the porch as "Kye's spot" as every day he'd go take his little snack, water, and a toy over to that spot then just sit and watch the workers while I talked to whoever I needed to meet with that day. what's so funny to me with these two pictures is that they were taken only a week apart - South Ga weather! He would get sick of always having to be at the "new house" so I would bake special treats to take with us As the house got closer and closer to becoming a home I was able to let Kye do more exploring. Most of my meetings started to take place inside and it allowed Kye to have some fun :) future hide-and-seek spot??? enjoying the view from his playroom ...
Dec 30th was the BIG move. I had been mentally counting down for that day. I was tired of living in a million boxes. Tired of taking load after load to the new house. Tired of spending ALL my time dealing with house building stuff. Tired of waiting really...just READY to be out of transition :) I was SO nervous to see who all would come out to help us move. I don't like relying on others for things - both Zach and I are very independent - and having to rely on other people for moving was not a feeling I enjoyed. It's why I over-worked and over-stressed in the days leading up to the move. Since Zach couldn't do any lifting I made it my own personal goal to move as much of the stuff light enough for me to carry that I could. I didn't want our helpers on moving day wasting their time on moving stuff I could have done myself. When people came over that morning they were SHOCKED by how much was already in the house! Pretty much all that was left to move was the heavy stuf...
