One Simple Tip for Starting the School Year off Right

Thursday, August 23, 2018

Back to school is an exciting time for teachers, students and parents alike. Each year brings with it a chance for a fresh start. A new beginning, a clean slate. As parents we want the absolute best for our children. We want them to have the opportunity to learn and succeed in their classrooms while having fun and making friends at the same time. So often in today's world teachers get a lot of flack. Parents are quick to come to their child's defense when issues arise rather than give the teacher the benefit of the doubt or trust that the teacher isn't the "enemy" and is instead trying to do their best to help all their students succeed. Most of the time teachers are meeting 20-30 new students at the start of each school year. Again, a clean slate. Sure, they may have heard whispers or rumors about some of the children, particularly if related to their academic performance or prior discipline record, but for the most part teachers don't know their upcoming...

Reasons Why it Benefits Your Child to Ride the School Bus

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Real life talk. I have a LOT of "mommy guilt" over the school bus. My hope was to always be able to take my kids to school and  pick them up. But then reality hit and school gets out smack dab in the middle of afternoon nap time. And we live in an area where a TON of kids get picked up so the car pool line is crazy . Zach and I talked a lot about it and prayed on it and decided to have our first school-goer (Kye) ride the bus home in the afternoons. We take the kids every morning but they ride it home after school. We now have two kids in elementary school along with a preschooler and infant at home. When we added the new baby to the bunch I quickly realized it wasn't possible to take the older kids to school in the mornings when my husband has to be at work earlier or is traveling for business. We have to leave the house at the same time that the baby has to eat! So now, not only do they ride every afternoon but they also have to ride in the mornings on occasion from ...

Kye and Britt Monthly Summary: May 2018

Wednesday, July 4, 2018

May didn't have enough fluff for Kye to come close to justifying an entire monthly summary for him. Of course he had a GREAT month...and made THE most decision of his LIFE that month :)  So I'm just sticking a few things about him in this post and then mostly covering Britt's May!

6 Ways Babywise Has Set My Children Up for School Success

Monday, July 2, 2018

Right now I have all three of my children in school. My oldest is going into 4th grade, my middle is entering 1st grade and my youngest will be continuing with a third year in a 3 morning a week preschool class. Babywise techniques have benefited my family in all areas of our lives but today I specifically want to focus on how Babywise has set my children up for success in a school setting:

Last Day of School 2018

Monday, June 11, 2018

All of the kids had a great year this school year! As a mama I had a good bit of "mommy guilt" this year as with us getting matched with Mama E right after school started I feel like I wasn't as involved as I'd have liked to have been in their classrooms. I felt like I didn't really  get to know their teachers or their school friends because I spent the first half of the school year traveling to Jax so much and then the second half of the year with a newborn at home! Tess had a MUCH better year in K3 than K2. She really blossomed and was more outgoing and had so many friendships and did so well with all of her participation and learning. I am SO sad about her starting K4 in the fall because it means she'll be gone every morning! I love our two days a week together but I know she'll do awesome and will continue to love school so much. On her last day they had Water Day which she was looking forward to!

Back to School 2017

Friday, September 8, 2017

I'm nottttt one of those moms who gets super excited for back to school. I love summer. I love the kids being at home. I kinda dread having them go back to school. Every year I secretly debate homeschooling ;) This year Britt started KINDERGARTEN! She's our first child to go to public school for kindergarten and first to go full day. I'd never heard of her teacher before (I know two of the kindergarten teachers so I did actually have some hopes on who'd she have) but liked her right when we met her. I know Britt is in excellent hands! Britt has been THRILLED about going to school and has talked about it for ages.  She was so proud at Open House and so eager for the first day! We got to Open House pretty late. Like 30 min before it ended. With Zach's new job and busy work schedule we tried to make it work to all go together but will probably change it up next year to make sure we have the necessary amount of time. I also got smart this year and once I knew wh...
