Kye Monthly Summary - January

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

While I may be decently behind in the blogging...I sure did sum up Jan in just a couple of posts! :) It's getting there! Here is everything sweet Kye had going on during Jan! Dentist:  Kye had his 6 month cleaning at the Dentist. His first trip to the dentist over the summer was a BREEZE so I wasn't the least bit worried about this one! We had practically no wait but Kye enjoyed playing with the tea set they had sitting out :) They have tvs in the ceilings above the patient chairs and my child instantly turned into a zombie. At first they had it on Cartoon Network. Um, no way. I asked if she minded switching it and it wasn't a big deal at all. We don't do tv but if we did I'd only probably let my kids watch Disney Channel or PBS probably? So she put it on Disney Channel. Kye did GREAT for the cleaning. No cavities and they said we're obviously doing a great job brushing and flossing.  A few things I did learn from the appointment: We will n...

Kye's Birthday Slideshow!

Monday, March 4, 2013

It is CRAZY to believe that I've been a parent as long as I was in high school. The four years of high school seem just like yesterday and now I have a FOUR YEAR OLD KID!!! Where the HECK has the time gone?!?!?! Today my sweet little baby boy is FOUR. FOUR. Like that is HUGE to me. I think it's a lot harder to accept than going from two to three was for me. A four year old has NO baby left. He's a legit KID now, ya know? While I'm busy spoiling Kye all day today you can enjoy his birthday slideshow!!! Since I now have a Mac I debated going a different route for the slideshow and using Iphoto or Ivideo. I know Rachael uses them and loves them, but I am a stickler for tradition so I stuck with Smilebox. Although using IPhoto to make it made my life SO MUCH easier! This junk didn't take half the time Britt's did :)  I picked three songs for his video this year. I did "Life is a Highway" from the Cars movie as it's his favorite song (he ...

Healthier Preschooler Lunches

Sunday, March 3, 2013

I have always tried to feed my kids rather healthy. No, we don't do all organic. No, I don't have a garden at home. No, I don't feed them a "clean eating" type diet. But I do my personal best. I buy organic when possible (we do all organic milk for sure). I try to feed them colorful foods at each meal. I limit sweets and processed foods as much as I can. We mostly eat all of our meals at home and I try to offer a variety of things at each meal.  Kye is turning four this coming week and has EVER only had plain white milk, water, or juice (our version of juice is v8 fushion mixed with naked juice green machine and water) and an occasional cup of lemonade or some other party punch or juice box and hot cocoa like three times ever. No chocolate milk, no sweet tea, never even one single sip of soda. While I do GREAT at limiting the junk he eats, I don't do as well with getting him TO eat the healthy stuff. It's much easier to keep a child FROM something tha...

Babywise and the Pacifier

Saturday, March 2, 2013

This is a guest post I wrote awhile back for a fellow Babywise Mom's blog :) Since today is Kye's BIG party I figured it was a good day to share it here :) When my son was about three weeks old I had a friend recommend reading Babywise. I loved the entire book and started putting the method into practice right away. With one exception: the pacifier. By the time I had read the book my son was already a "paci baby." Babywise encourages use of a pacifier at times when a baby is fussy but not hungry. However, it warns of allowing the pacifier to become a sleep prop. And, for us, a sleep prop is exactly  what the pacifier had become! My son "needed" the pacifier to sleep. He was swaddled and, therefore, I spent a TON of time in and out of his room re-inserting the pacifier every time it fell out. Over and over again I'd be in his room popping it back in. I had such a distain for the pacifier and swore I'd never use one again!  ...
