Today the Babywise Friendly Blog Network is sharing tips on the topic of "teaching virtues." A virtue that I aim to teach my children from early on is cleanliness. Cleanliness covers many areas of life: personal hygiene, care of personal belongings, general tidiness, etc. I am the first one to tell people that I'm not hardcore concerned about germs. I'm a firm believer in the 5 second rule...and totally believe some germs build immunities (right? right?). This isn't a post where I'm saying I'm Miss Clean Freak and that everyone else should be too! However I do think there is a lot of value in being a person who takes care of themselves, their belongings and their environment. Here are some of my tips for helping instill the virtue of cleanliness in your home! 1. The Clean Up Song: It may sound silly but find yourself an easy to remember "clean up" song. I think the one we use is from Barney? From BIRTH whenever I'm cleaning up my ba...
Whew! I know I'm mega late on this and I hate that...but life right now is a constant go-go-go and I just can't slow down! I am probably including way more pictures than I should and I will probably ramble more than usual. Typically when I blog I write to my hearts content then go back and severely edit to make it shorter (I was "that kid" in school who needed the word limit on papers or I'd go over it haha). This post won't have much editing so be warned! Words: I have to start this month off talking about Kye's TALKING! It's really taken off and I'm so excited about it. He took awhile to walk and awhile to talk so it's okay :) He is saying things much more consistently but still not on demand. So it's harder to catch him on video saying them but I promise he does! I started keeping a list in my phone of all the words he says so I can actually remember them and it's pretty long: no (VERY clearly and uses it appropriately - now ...
Here's what all went down during Kye's 11th month! Two things in one hand: Kye worked very hard at being able to pick up two things in one hand. I don't really get why this was so important to him but he got very frustrated when he wasn't able to do it. I haven't noticed this as much recently, but in the beginning of the month this goal filled his every playtime! And whenever he'd get it he'd look at us and raise his little hand up so proud of his prize :) you can tell he's really concentrating on it! Clean Up: Since the beginning of time (or when Kye was first born, which feels like the beginning of time) we've always sang a "clean up song" (yes, the one from Barney) and cleaned up all of Kye's toys each time he finishes playing with them. Finally he's starting to help! It takes a little longer to clean up but I can hand him a toy and tell him to "put it in the basket" and he will! He actually started doing this wi...
