Spear Summary of Month 7

Wednesday, August 15, 2018

This is a summary of Spear's 7th month of life which spanned the entire month of June. He was 6 months old during this month! Eating:  Well. The day arrived. It was truly time for me to get my butt in gear and start feeing Spear some solids! I really put it off as long as I could haha. It's not my fav and it's def a stage that makes me glad to be DONE with babies moving forward. One last that I'm not getting teary eyed about for sure! With all my babies I've always used Take and Toss cups for their sippy cups . I've always been happy with how they've held up, how easy they were for the kids to manage, and never had any major issues regarding spills or anything. But I've had SO MANY people swear by the Munchin 360 Trainer that I wanted to try it this time around. Last kid...might as well try out the latest and greatest while I can right? I swear this cup is like invented by aliens. I don't get the science behind it or how it actually works or ho...

Spear Summary of Month 6

Thursday, July 12, 2018

This is a summary of Spear's 6th month of life (the entire month of May). He was 5 months old during this month. Eating:  At this stage in parenting Spear I'm really sad about not nursing him. I know it was the best choice for everyone  involved and I can't fathom actually breastfeeding him. Especially during those tender days in the hospital! But life is easier now with him. He's on a smooth schedule. He eats well. He's happy and content. This is the sweet spot of nursing a baby and it's when I'm really missing it. I still love the snuggles with him while feeding but it's simply not the same as nursing! He is taking 2 6 oz bottles a day (the first two of the day) then I offer between 6-8 oz of breastmilk at his 3:00 feeding and give 8 oz for his nighttime bottle. He went through a period this week where he was fussier with his bedtimes and was fussy right after feeding so I bumped his 6 oz bottles up to 8 oz for a few days and it must have been a ...

Spear's Week 11 Summary

Friday, April 13, 2018

This is the summary of Spear's 11th week of life from Friday February 9th through Thursday February 15th. He was 10 weeks old during this week! This was a BUSY week for me as a mama so I kinda slacked in taking notes on things and taking photos. #momfail. Feeding:  Feeding continued to go well this week. We put gas drops in his bottle and give them to him in his mouth prior to feeding. He's always been gassy from birth and really needs the drops still to help avoid belly aches. He is also still a very sleepy eater and will dose while eating. He is always actively sucking so I don't overly stress about it and it's never messed up his sleep cycle or anything (he's for sure a high sleep needs baby!) Sleep:  Still not sleeping through the night solid...but also continuing not to eat during the night. Since he's not hungry for his wakings it shows it's a sleep issue. But it's a hard thing to work on when you're EXHAUSTED. So I would move h...

Spear's Week 10 Summary

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

This is a summary of Spear's 10th week of life from Friday February 2nd through Thursday February 8th. He was 9 weeks old during this week! This will be a very brief summary because Zach, Kye, Britt, Tess and I went to Disney and Spear stayed with Big Papa and G-Mama! I think it's SO important for our kids to all bond with extended family and I know how much Zach's parents savor that quality time with each baby when we travel. Spear didn't have the chance to bond with each of us while in the womb so we've really taken a lot of time to make sure he gets the chance to truly bond with everyone, especially focused on the "regulars" in his life. Even adoption aside, Zach and I like to plan a trip away from baby when each child is pretty young in order to help them be flexible in staying with Zach's parents and in preventing any separation anxiety type issues. Spear's defiantly been the "easiest to leave" since he's bottle fed! Tes...

Spear's Week 9 Summary

This is a summary of Spear's 9th week of life from Friday January 26th through Thursday February 1st. He was 8 weeks old during this week! Feeding:  I continued to do a bit of tweaking this week. I tried pushing the dream feed from 10:30 to 11:00 and tried dropping it all together! Basically I was just desperate for him to sleep longer at night and tried whatever I could to make that happen (more in sleep section below) I also tried feeding him just a little in the middle of the night rather than a full feeding. I tried just giving him enough to get him back to sleep! I had TOTALLY forgotten that I bought a Beebo when I finished out my registry stuff so I busted it out and tried it this week. A big negative of bottle feeding is that I don't have two free hands the way I did with breastfeeding so I feel like this could help! And in a lot of ways it's really neat because it does FEEL kinda like I'm breastfeeding. The bottle rests more against my c...
