Dealing With The 4 Month Sleep Regression

4 Month Sleep Regression. Yes, it's a thing. I never knew it was a thing though until my third  baby. Just goes to show that old dogs can learn new tricks, huh?  I LOVE the Wonder Weeks App and have found it to be extremely accurate. Babies go through times of developmental leaps and during those times often have sleep issues. It makes a lot of sense: as they develop they are more and more aware of their surroundings which makes it more difficult for them to self soothe when they wake early or difficult for them to fall asleep when they are first put down.  I'm a member of several Babywise Facebook Groups (my personal favorite is "I Love Babywise" if you're looking for a good one!) and kept reading about this mysterious "4 month sleep regression." It is a month long  wonder "week." I shrugged it off. Tess was doing so well with sleep so surely it wouldn't affect me. Not my kid... Turns out not only did Tess struggle with the ...

Weaning from the Swaddle (Crazy Sleeper!)

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Swaddling is one of those parent things that I do NOT understand how some people don't do it?!?! ALL babies sleep better when swaddled! I'm so, so thankful I learned about swaddling (I actually remember shopping for Crissy's first baby shower...for Stevie...and she had registered for a swaddle. I bought it for her but had ZERO clue what in the world it was!). With Kye we loved the swaddle so much that we were afraid to have him sleep without it. Seriously. We didn't full wean him from the swaddle until he was almost 6 months old (you can read about it here and btw...seeing that bumper in his crib makes me want to slap myself!). With Kye we waited so long and it was much longer than necessary. Did you know that a LOT of a baby's learning actually occurs while in the crib? Swaddling is a wonderful sleep tool, but if used too long it can delay a baby's development. Back in March Brittlynn started to break out of her swaddle (we use Miracle Blankets with he...

Britt's Summary of Month 4

This is Britt's first officially monthly summary! While I didn't really have enough stuff to cover weekly posts anymore...it sure is a hassle to have SO much to write for a monthly one. Oh well, she's worth it ;) This summary is of Brittlynn's 4th month of life (March 6th-April 5th) so she was actually 3 months old. Here's what she was up to: Feet: I was taking these pictures of Britt with her raspberry teether when she totally found her feet for the first time!!! (this was on March 19th). She was in awe of them. Here's a video of when she discovered her feet! After she found them for the first time, this became her most fond position. She constantly worked at getting those toes to her mouth! Let the Baldness Begin! I knew it was bound to happen. I'm so hardcore about back-to-sleep that it's inevitable. But Britt started to lose her hair in the back. She lays on her back and moves her head side to side a lot so that makes the ...
