How To Drop The Last MOTN Feeding

The newborn days are so tough for me. I don't function well without enough sleep and I feel like I'm a walking zombie until my babies are sleeping through the night. Establishing a Babywise Routine isn't easy, but it pays off so quickly . Somewhere around 6-8 weeks my babies all stopped waking during the 3-4 am hour and instead slept until the 5-6 hour. While you'd think that would be awesome, because it means an extra hour of solid sleep for me, it's actually the MOST frustrating time for a baby to wake. With a desired wake time to start the day being 7, having a baby wake at 5 is like torture. How do you handle it? How do you get them to drop that feeding and make it until 7? Having to wake yourself up to feed your baby at 5 am knowing you will be up again at 7 is truly misery! Here's how I handle dropping the last middle of the night feeding: 1. Treat it as a Full Feeding then Re-Wake: This is frustrating. Because you nurse your baby at 5 am and then ...

5 Sleep Training Tips

Today is Babywise Friendly Blog Network Day! I'm guest posting over on Elaine's blog ( faithfullyinfertile.com ). I'm writing about physical boundaries and how I establish them with my kids. Valerie (from babywisemom.com ) is guest posting for me today! I have MANY friends with new babies who are working on establishing good sleep habits and Babywise principals so I asked her to write about some sleep training tips. Valerie is THE resource I send everyone to whenever they ask me a question so I know this post will come in handy for so many!!!  In the 8+ years that I have been parenting, I have found that there are two things so far that I dread more than anything else. One is potty training. Another is sleep training. Whenever I am pregnant, I a) moan that I have another child to potty train (and I don't know why--it has never been as bad as I seem to think it has been) and b) worry about how sleep training will go.  My Sleep Training History Let...

Week Seven Summary

Brittlynn's 7th week of life was from January 17th - the 23rd. Here's what we were up to that week: Sleep: BIG events in the world of sleep for Miss Britt! On 1/17 she had her first FLAWLESS day of sleep. Never had to go in her room once the WHOLE day. Hard work takes awhile to pay off but it made it all worth it for sure ;) She also ate wonderfully that day, for about 45 min each feeding and had awesome awake times!!! It was one of those days you just want to hold onto forever.  That night she broke out of her swaddle for the first time but the next night (Wed Jan 18th) she SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!! A little over six weeks old and she slept from her dreamfeed at 10:30 (so I put her down close to 11:30) until 7!!! When Kye first sttn he was eight weeks old and I remember vividly Zach and I freaking out because we were worried about him. Of course this was before we owned a video monitor or an angel care monitor so Zach ran across the house to make sure he was breathi...

15 Months Old!

Here is what Kye has been up to this month in compared with What to Expect the Toddler Years . I love having a reference point to refer to just to see where Kye is compared to the "norm" for his age and see areas I need to make sure to work with him on. Kye can do all the things a 15 month old "should be able" to do including: walk well bend over and pick up an object use at least one word *Note: if you are using this as your own personal reference and your 15 month old has not reached these milestones then the book says to consult a doctor or nurse-practitioner in order to do an evaluation. (I LOVE when he puffs out his chest...so manly) Kye can do all the things that a 15 month old "will probably" be able to do including: use 2 words (the normal age range for this is by 14 1/2 months old) drink from a cup scribble point to a desired object Kye can do all the things a 15 month old "may possibly" be able to do including:...

Summary of Month 9

It's been a BUSY month for Mr. Kye!!! Crib: One afternoon Zach and I were eating lunch or something and we heard Kye bust out laughing on the monitor. We had to go in there to see what he was cracking up about when he should have been sleeping and we found him standing up in his crib! It was so funny! He was so proud of himself! Of course, we decided right then that it was time to put the crib lower! I love it lower and think the crib actually looks prettier this way! Fast Crawling: Kye is no longer scooting around he is full fledged crawling! Here's a video of my little speed demon in action! Panting: I didn't take a video of Kye doing his famous panting sound because he does it in every video. If you didn't know any better you'd think the kid suffered from severe asthma haha! It's just something he's does and actually he's pretty much always done. It's just his thing. When he gets excited he pants haha I wonder if it's from living with...
