Spear had his 6 month well check-up on June 26th. Our appointment was the first one of the day and yet we were there for almost a full two hours. I have always LOVED our pediatrician but yall. That's crazy! Zach was at the appointment since Spear had shots and we had ALL four kids there since it's summer. 2 hours for the first appointment of the day is just way too long to be waiting! Thankfully we have sweet babies who all did SO well with the wait and entertained themselves and each other. We did end up asking if they could give Spear his shots early since Zach really needed to leave!
Spear's 4th month well check was on Monday April 16th. We had THE first appointment which was so nice! With the shot appointments I really like Zach to be there. I don't want my kids to have issues with needles and I think his calm nature about them really makes a difference. It worked out great that we were able to have an early morning appointment time before he had to head to work!
Tess's 1 year visit was on August 12th. I was thankful for this visit because I was having some ear pain issues myself and wanted to get it checked out (I had fluid in my ear and have been on a long on-going treatment plan since. Wah wah)! I was thankful Zach was able to come with us and it was nice just having Tess since the other kids had school! Big girl stepping right up to the scale! She did SO well getting all checked out which surprised me because she doesn't usually feel very comfortable around new people! This is something new I don't remember filling out with my other kids, but I appreciate that they have it. I took a photo of it to keep to refer back to in the future. With the chance of having drug exposure the chance of autism also increases so this may be beneficial for us to keep track of things when Tab comes! We had a combo visit for the kids (Kye's 4 year old check-up and Britt's 15 month check-up) on March 7th. It's the last time we can do a combo check up for them so I took full advantage of it and we lucked out that it was actually pretty close to both of their proper ages. Kye turned four on March 4th and Britt turned 15 months on March 6th! Both kids were going to be having shots so Zach came along with us for the appointment and I'm seriously SO glad he did. I have NO CLUE how mamas manage with multiple babies at the dr solo!!! We did the divide and conquer method, I stuck with Kye and let Zach deal with Britt. Two weeks ago (I know, I've been too busy living life to actually sit down and blog about it!) we had Kye's 18 month pediatrician visit. It was a pretty exciting one because it's the last of the 3-6 month well-visits and from 24 months on they'll only need to see him yearly for a check-up! Yay! I didn't even realize we had the appointment until late that Sunday night after I'd driven home from my lack-of-sleep weekend in Atlanta. Needless to say, I did NOT have any type of question list prepared. We just kinda winged it like most non-anal parents probably do on the reg! When we got there we had hardly any wait which was WONDERFUL (mental note: make all of Kye's appointments at 9:45 on a Monday morning). They took his stats and they were: 27.5lb (70th percentile), 33 3/4 inches tall (85th percentile), and 19 inches head circumference (75th percentile). June 7th was the day I was dreading. The big MMR appointment. YIKES. I am a person who likes to research before making decisions but I typically prefer to rely on trusted resources (like the Babywise books or blogs I follow or close friends). When you start hunting around on the internet for advice regarding this shot you get so many different answers. You also get so many different answers when talking to friends. You hear that there is NO link to Autism with getting the vaccine but then you hear of those cases where the child had the shot and BAM! woke up Autistic. It's just scary. And the stats for Autism are an unbelievable 1 out of every 110 children! Since boys are more likely than girls to suffer from it I feel I'm right in worrying. It's a scary thing and I just don't want to make a choice that could potentially affect the rest of my life and especially my child's life. In the end we went with getting the shot as scheduled. Yup, we're off track again! They wanted us to come in the day after the the wedding but we knew that wasn't possible so the next closest appointment date to Kye's actual birthday was St. Patrick's Day so we took it! The appointment was at 10:45 and he naps from 9-11 but it worked out fine. Lately he's been in his crib talking from 10:30 to 11:00 so I just put him down dressed (I gave up dressing my kid all cute for the dr appt. They pretty much strip him down anyways so why not just let him be comfortable?!?) and got him up at 10:30 and left! Zach came with us to this appointment because Kye would be getting shots and we ALL know I don't do shots! It was a very short wait which was nice and it was nice to run into Kecia and her little family. Kecia and I went to high school together and were pregnant at the same time. Thursday we had Kye's 6 month well visit. I know, I know the kid is closer to 7 months than he is 6 months but come his 9 month appointment we're getting back on the right schedule! The appointment was at 10:45 which is a little tricky since he eats at 11:00. We decided to go up there very early for the appointment and it worked to our advantage! We gave him a bottle after the nurse took his vitals but while we waited on the dr. then we fed him the solids in Zach's lap after the dr. left but before the nurse came back to do the shots! It all went pretty smoothly really :) I didn't have very many questions at this appointment..it may sound bad but I don't really value much of what the pediatrician has to say. I know they are dr. but I trust myself, my mother, my friends, and Babywise more than I trust them! Oops! First thing they weighed Kye in and I liked that it was BEFORE he ate so his tummy was empty and it was more of a true reading! He weighs 18.14 lbs!!! Y...
I hate that we are so off on Kye's appointments! This Wednesday Kye had his 4 month check-up, even though he's more like 4 1/2 months. His 6 month check-up he'll be a week shy of 7 months! They assured me that we will get back on track at his 9 month check-up though which is good! I try hard to handle things that come up with Kye on my own by using the internet, friends, or books. I'm not one of those "omg call the dr." type people. That being said, when I AM going to go to the dr. I come up with several questions to ask because I want to make sure I'm doing things as they would have me do them! Why do we bother dressing Kye up all cute for the visits? He always ends up being naked anyway! Here he is with Daddy waiting for Stephanie to come in! This time the appointment fell at the end of his nap and during his feeding time so we had to feed him a bottle while we were waiting. This morning was Kye's 2 month well visit to Dr. Griner's office. It was also the day I've been dreading...shots! We waited for a time when Zach would be able to go because I am very very afraid of needles (worst part of labor? the iv!) and I know the baby can sense that from me so I don't want him to be afraid of them too. When I take Levi and Sadie to the vet I always leave the room so duh I'll do the same with my child! We gave him Tylenol about an hour before his appointment because it's supposed to help. Of course the box said "ask dr." for the dosage so I googled it and we gave him 0.4 ml which ends up being half of what we should have given him based on his weight. Poor thing! He was cuddled up to Daddy before the nurses came in (of course the appointment fell during nap time). We didn't see Dr. Griner this time, we saw Stephanie again and she's super nice.
