How to Help Relieve a Gassy Baby

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Whew. Nothing will drive you more crazy as a mom of a newborn as much as GAS will. Gas issues not only can cause pain for your little one, but can also reck havoc on sleep. Gassiness is also something easily overlooked as a new parent who is exhausted beyond belief and simply running on fumes. I've dealt with gas related issues with all three of my children when they were babies. With my first I couldn't figure out why he was crying and seemed in pain. I rushed him to the dr, typical "first time mom" move right?, only to find out it was gas pains! By the time I had my second baby I knew gas was a common culprit and had my toolbox of tricks ready to go to help. Many people think of Babywise  as a sleep training book but it's so much more than that. There is actually an entire section devoted to tips on helping relive gas issues for your little one. I have pulled out my book again and again to help me help my babies. I have also learned through the years some ex...

Week Five Summary

Brittlynn's fifth week of life was from January 3rd - January 9th. Here is what she was up to during this week (and it's a LOT): Sleep: Whew. Week five was MEGA tough. I wanted to cry. I think I did cry. She just would not sleep during the day. Literally. Like the longest stretch she got of solid daytime sleep was 20 minutes. It wore me out! I knew the reason doing shh-pat wasn't working was that I wasn't doing it long enough. I'd "shh" and pat until she was asleep then leave. Hogg (in The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems ) even says if you don't do it long enough the baby won't go into a deep sleep. Well sorry Hogg but I have a toddler to attend to and I can't be sitting by a crib for 40 minutes at a time!!! I got pretty ticked at good 'ole Hogg on Jan 3rd and reached a breaking point during this week (yes, it happens to us ALL!). I said screw it and just let her cry. An entire nap. She literally cried for an hour straight. Do...

Week 14 Summary

I'm still waiting for the week to come when there isn't something to say! Maybe kids never stop having interesting weeks? It seems like stuff is ALWAYS changing!!! Doesn't he look so much older? Turns out he's bigger too! Size Changes: He's now wearing size 2-3 diapers (which I like b/c they have a wide range for weight so they fit him now while his 2s are too small and will continue to fit when the 3s fit him!) AND is wearing size 6 month clothes! I'm in the process of going through the 3 month stuff and deciding what to keep for the next boy someday. We also had several 3 month stuff that he never wore so I'm super glad I kept tags on because our Carter's store will return no matter how long you've had it! Yay! Zantac: A couple weeks ago we dropped the night dose of the Zantac and I haven't seen any side effects. I've been scared to drop the morning one just because I was worried he'd be in pain. Well, I did it! Goodbye Zantac...

Heading Home

Before leaving the hospital they weighed me! I'm lucky in that I had my check up the morning I went into labor so I know exactly how much weight I gained overall. 39 lbs! Thank the Lord I had Kye the day I did or it for sure would have gone over 40 haha! Well when they weighed me I had lost 20 lbs in ONE DAY! So awesome! I had never planned on telling Zach my "number" but he was in the room when they weighed me and I said "Dang 20 lbs!" So he could do the math...let's just say it was a number I never ever hope to see again!!! Even though Kye didn't get done with his circumcision until later than planned and I had to feed him before we left and we waited a million years for someone to come cut our hospital bracelets off, we still got out of there before 9:00. I know a lot of people will think I'm dumb for coming home that late but I don't care. I really really wanted to get HOME and I'm so thankful I did! Mom, Mr. Rusty, and Mrs. Charlotte...
